1. Nickel based alloy Introduction
Incoloy alloy is a nickel-based corrosion-resistant alloy within the iron-chromium series. It exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing acids, along with robust resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion. This alloy is commonly employed in various industries such as chemistry, petrochemicals, nuclear energy, and rare metal extraction. Some of the frequently used variants include Incoloy 800, Incoloy 825, and Incoloy 926.
Inconel alloy is a nickel-chromium-iron solution-strengthened alloy renowned for its excellent high-temperature corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. Additionally, it possesses superior cold and hot processing capabilities and welding performance. This alloy finds widespread applications in sectors like aviation, chemicals, paper industry, and more. Commonly used Inconel alloys are Inconel 600, Inconel 601, Inconel 625, Inconel 617, Inconel 718, and Inconel X-750.
Hastelloy alloy is a nickel-based corrosion-resistant and high-temperature alloy that primarily falls into two categories: nickel-chromium alloy and nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy. It boasts exceptional corrosion resistance and thermal stability, making it a preferred choice in industries such as aviation, petrochemicals, and chemicals. Commonly used Hastelloy alloys include Hastelloy C276, Hastelloy C22, Hastelloy B2, Hastelloy B3, Hastelloy C4, Haynes 230, and Haynes 188.
2. Monel K500 Pipe Fittings
Alloy K-500 is a nickel-copper alloy that offers a unique combination of properties. It inherits the excellent corrosion resistance of Alloy 400 while possessing significantly greater strength and hardness. This alloy achieves a yield strength three times higher than Alloy 400, primarily attributed to the addition of aluminum and titanium elements to the nickel-based matrix and the subsequent age-hardening process.
During age-hardening, trace amounts of Ni3(Ti, Al) particles precipitate within the alloy's matrix, enhancing its mechanical properties. Alloy K-500's low magnetic permeability, high strength, and good corrosion resistance have made it a widely used material, particularly in oil well inspection equipment and electronic components.
A noteworthy characteristic of Alloy K-500 is its non-magnetic behavior, even at very low temperatures. However, time hardening results in a slight volume shrinkage. For instance, circular rods with a diameter of 2.5 x 10-4 inches will undergo shrinkage during the age-hardening process.
To achieve optimal performance, a typical age-hardening process involves maintaining the alloy at 982 °C for 30 minutes, followed by water quenching and annealing. Afterward, the alloy is held at 593 °C-607 °C for 16 hours and then slowly cooled within the furnace at a rate of 9.4 °C-3.8 °C per hour until it reaches 482 °C. From this point, the alloy is cooled to room temperature, with the possibility of intermediate cooling methods like boiler cooling, air cooling, or quenching, without strict adherence to a specific cooling rate.
